The Bremen Police Department is used to trading in its used vehicles for new ones, which it will soon do with two within its six-vehicle fleet. However, it isn't accustomed to the simultaneous staff turnover it currently faces.
Dispatcher Laverne Replogle retired Feb. 17 after 17 years between the BPD and the Marshall County Sheriff's Department 911 center. Barb Capron, the department's dispatch supervisor, will retire Feb. 28 after 28 years of service.
Capron's position will be filled in-house by Melinda Daily, a radio operator of 23 years who will move from Class B to Class A.
WARSAW â The host Tigers put themselves in position to win their third straight sectional championships with a dominant 21 top-six berths, while Culver Military Academy earned 12 top-six spots and Plymouth grabbed four at the preliminary round of the 11-team Warsaw Boys Swim Sectional Thursday.
âAs far as times, with the exception of one swim the boys all swam lifetime bests,â said Culver Military head boys swim coach Tom Duckett.
CULVER â Culver Communityâs upperclassmen delivered on Senior Night, with a little help from a couple of younger guys.
Boosted by career scoring leader Zoe Bauerâs 16 points â including 6 of 6 from the foul line in the final minute â and five assists, the Cavs held off visiting South Central 45-39 in a bruising boys basketball game Thursday at John R. Nelson Gymnasium.
Culverâs all-senior starting lineup â Bauer, Larry Clingler, AJ Neace, Patrick McBee and Scotty Brown â tallied seven straight points to tip off the contest and led wire to wire.

Two Culver children will be heading to Disney World this month thanks in large measure to the efforts of Culver High Schoolâs Student Council and its ccordinator, Tina Stacy. Surpassing all expectations, the students are seen here with a check for $10,416, nearly all of the money allocated for young Chloe Hough and Chris Webb, whose Make-A-Wish endeavor began last fall.
The preliminary Marshall County 2010 Census figures are in.
Marshall County grew 4 percent during the last 10 years from 45,128 to 47,051.Â
Indiana grew at a 6.6 percent rate. Most of Indianaâs growth occurred in the central part of the state.
Hamilton and Hendricks counties were the fastest growing areas of the state.

PLYMOUTH â Itâs a becoming a tradition that nobody wants to end.
Several years ago the Plymouth High School theater class â tired of buying scripts that they eventually ended up re-writing anyway â decided to write their own play and put it on stage. Itâs something that has taken on a life of its own.
For the third year, the class presents a show theyâve written called âA World of Wordsâ Friday and Saturday at the PHS Auditorium. Show time each night is 7 p.m.

ROCHESTER â Mary Lois Doud, 87, of Rochester, died at 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 at Life Care Center of Rochester.Â
She is survived by a son, James (Bonnie) Doud of Akron.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 and one hour prior to services Saturday at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

Carroll âRickâ Conley

PLYMOUTH â Carroll R. âRickâ Conley, age 55, of Redwood Road, Plymouth, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at his home.
Rick was born Sept. 7, 1955, in Plymouth, to Austin and Carol (Long) Conley. He was a lifetime resident of Plymouth. Rick and the former Kathy Landrie were united in marriage June 21, 1997, in Plymouth, at the House of Prayer, where he was a member. A proud United States Marine, Rick served his country in Vietnam.Â
WARSAW â Poaolo Palmitessa is feeling the pressure.
After falling just shy of a state cut in second place in the 200-yard Individual Medley at last yearâs Warsaw Boys Swim Sectional, the Plymouth senior has just one more shot to make it out this week as the preliminary round of swim sectionals begins tonight.
âIâm feeling enormous pressure because I havenât been to state ever,â said Palmitessa. âItâs pretty nerve-wracking for me, but Iâm pretty excited, too.â
INDIANAPOLIS â If Damon Howe wants to win a state title, heâll have to do what no one else has yet been able to do this season.
And heâll have to do it three times.
