Bids opened for Community Resource Center

PLYMOUTH – Reality for a dream moved a step closer with the opening of bids for the Community Resource Center.
The building that will give a home to many of the counties social services agencies has been a dream of many in the community. The common home would allow pooling of resources and efforts of the agencies and allow them to more effectively pursue their missions. The bids opened at the Marshall County Historical Society Museum on Thursday afternoon moved the building one step closer to reality.

Art classes planned at Heartland

PLYMOUTH — Heartland Artist Gallery will be offering classes to the members and community. 
Jayne Jacobson is offering an enameling class Saturday, Feb. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. She will teach the basic techniques of enameling. The class will be at her home and students will need a sack lunch. The class is limited in size so make reservations early. The cost is $30. Supplies will be provided.

Excel Classes to be offered at Bremen Public Library

BREMEN — The Bremen Public Library will offer a three-part class on Excel beginning Monday, Feb. 28. Each class session will be two hours and include “hands-on” work on the library’s laptop computers. No previous experience with Excel is required however, it is expected that patrons who sign up for these classes are able to use a mouse effectively. Registration for these classes begins Monday, Feb. 14.

Quentin Flagg fundraiser concert in Argos Feb. 12

ARGOS — The Argos United Methodist Church Community Life Center will host a fundraiser concert to help the church's mission group travel to Belize to help to help build a medical building. The event take place Saturday, Feb. 12 at the church at 570 N. Michigan St., Argos and features Rock 'N' Roll crooner Quentin Flagg. School performance reports are in

School corporations all over the state are publishing their annual performance reports using 2009 data. Under Indiana code, the reports must be made available to local newspapers and published between Jan. 24 and Feb. 14. Today, the Pilot News publishes Plymouth, Argos, John Glenn and LaVille reports in the Classified/Legal section, beginning on page B3.
The reports are for 2009 after the ISTEP (Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress-Plus) was moved to the spring for grades 3-8 rather than being given in the fall as in previous years.

ROCHESTER — Shawn A. Schuler, 43, of S.R. 110, Rochester, passed away at 11:11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at his home.
Shawn was born Nov. 25, 1967, in Gary, to Leon A. and Arlene E. (Tarchala) Schuler. Shawn graduated from Plymouth High School in the Class of 1986. He married the former Jennifer R. Bond, Nov. 18, 1995, in LaPaz.

WHEATFIELD, Ind. — Tom Norris, age 61, of Wheatfield, Ind., passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at South Shore Hospital, Chicago, Ill. He was born May 12, 1949 in Plymouth, to Marjorie (Miller) and David F. Norris.

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Ruth “Irene” Wallace, 85, a former Plymouth resident, died at 11:06 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 in the Life Care Center of North Glendale, Ariz.
Irene was born Feb. 18, 1925 in Plymouth, the daughter of Mack T. and Myrtle L. (Huffer) Johnson. She attended Plymouth schools.
She worked for United Technologies – Automotive Division for 23 years as a production assembler and retired in 1991. She had attended the Paseo Verde Christian Church in Peoria, Ariz.
Irene’s favorite past-time was crocheting.

PLYMOUTH – Julia R. Griewank, 96, passed away of natural causes at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011 in the Pilgrim Manor Care Center. She was a lifetime Plymouth resident and lived on Hillcrest Avenue.
She was born in Plymouth on April 12, 1914 the daughter of Ernest O. and Mary M. (Seider) Holm. Julia graduated from Lincoln High School in the Class of 1932.
On April 27, 1947 in Plymouth she became the bride of Howard M. Griewank. He would precede her in death Feb. 2, 1989.

  ELKHART — Ruth E. Hankey, 92, of Elkhart, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at East Lake Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Surviving are several cousins and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Esther. 
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at trinity Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Rev. Robert G. Schallhorn, Jr. will officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Pioneer Cemetery in North Judson.
