PLYMOUTH â With only one win during the Northern Lakes Conference dual schedule, the Rockies had a lot of ground to make up at Saturdayâs NLC Championship meet.
Led by IndianaMat.com No. 2-ranked Damon Howeâs championship finish in the heavyweight class, Plymouth placed a total of nine wrestlers in the top six Saturday, but couldnât make up enough ground to shake up the final NLC standings as they beat out Concord but finished seventh, while Elkhart Memorial claimed the crown as expected at The Rock.
ELKHART â It wasnât a championship, but first-year Bremen head wrestling coach Shawn Campbell still got a little misty-eyed at the progress heâs seen his team make.
Jimtown won the championship on its home turf, but outsized Bremen won a moral victory, placing 13 of its 14 wrestlers in the top six for third place at the Northern State Conference Championships at Jimtown Saturday.
PLYMOUTH â Despite being down 6-foot-1 senior Marisa Green, Plymouth outrebounded Wawasee 35-18 â including an 11-2 advantage off the offensive glass âto beat their Northern Lakes Conference foe 45-36 at The Rock Saturday night.
With Green sidelined with an ACL tear â the second of her four-year career â Amber Redinger and Andria Shook stepped up in the front court while the rest of the team chipped in to help the Lady Pilgrims win the battle of the boards and their second straight NLC game.

PLYMOUTH â Indiana public schools could be updating calendars for the 2013-14 school year if a bill introduced into the Indiana State Senate Jan. 5 continues to be met with approval.
Senate Bill 0171, concerning restricting start and end dates for school calendars, was introduced on first reading Jan. 5, 2011 and was then referred to the Committee on Education and Career Development.
Originally authoring the bill were Dennis Kruse, District 16; Mike Delph, District 29, and Scott Schneider, District 30.
On Jan. 13, Frank Mrvan, District 1, signed on as co-author.
PLYMOUTH â The Boys & Girls Club of Marshall County will celebrate another successful year while raising money to continue their programs at this yearâs February fundraising dinner with the theme âAll That Jazz.â
âLast year the theme was âFire and Iceâ and it was a theme Iâd always wanted to do,â said the clubâs director, Billie Treber. âThis year Mary Beth Listenberger said weâd do âAll That Jazzâ since itâs something that sheâs always wanted to do.â

PLYMOUTH â Chancey R. Bright, age 76, of west Jackson St., Plymouth, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at 9:30 p.m., at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Chancey was born Nov. 10, 1934, in Kosciusko County, to Earl and Marie (Allen) Bright. He proudly served his country in the United States Army (Screaming Eagles) during the Korean War.Â
Chancey married the former Marjorie Jolly, Nov. 9, 1957. Marjorie passed away in 2004.Â

PLYMOUTH â Betty Jane Wright, 64, of Plymouth, died Wednesday, Jan, 19, 2011 at Our Lady of Peace Hospital in Mishawaka.Â
She was born Oct. 25, 1946 in Fort Wayne to the late Melvin Arnold and Pauline (Seitz) Wright.Â
She is survived by her sisters, Connie Vinson and Penny Wright both of Fort Wayne; brothers, Rick Wright and Keith Wright of Fort Wayne; a stepsister, Pam Beaman; stepmother, Pernie Wright; and aunt and uncle Bill and Reba Mullins, all of Fort Wayne; and several nieces and nephews.Â

ROCHESTER â Bernard Paul âBernieâ Weiland, 84, of 3337 W. 450 N. Rochester, passed away at 7:45 a.m., Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 at Hickory Creek at Rochester.
He is survived by two daughters, Michaelene (Brian) Jordan of Vicksburg, Mich. and Denise (Louis) DeMarco of Monee, Ill.; four grandchildren; a brother, Richard Weiland of Plymouth.
Visitation will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24 at Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 W. 18th St., Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.Â
If Culver area youth were to hold drives for the Culver Council of Churches food pantry year-round, says pantry Director Leroy Bean, the shelves would likely always be stocked and the coffers full of funds. Bean knows whereof he speaks: between November 15 and December 20, the pantry took in 4,258 pounds of donated items, and a good share of it came through the efforts of local young folks.
