SJRMC to add new downtown location, hire additional physicians

PLYMOUTH — If your family receives medical care from Plymouth Family and Internal Medicine at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center (SJRMC) in Plymouth, you may soon have a shorter drive to doctor’s appointments.
SJRMC will be opening new outpatient offices in February, at 209 E. Jefferson St. in the previous Madison Center building. The expansion will allow the hospital to extend care to more patients at a convenient location.

at 8:05 p.m. at the Hospice House in South Bend.
He is survived by his wife, Martha E. (McIntosh) Grove
of Bremen; sons, James A. Grove of Arkansas and David
M. Grove of Colorado; daughter, Deborah S. Grove of Ohio;
brother, Bill G. Grove of Arkansas; sister, Carol M. Grove of
Valparaiso; and a stepgranddaughter.
Visitation is Friday, Dec. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mishler
Funeral Home, 2030 S.R. 331 in Bremen. Funeral service
will be held Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Milford Christian

Pilgrims drop 4th straight

PLYMOUTH — Offensive and turnover woes continued to plague Plymouth, and the Lady Pilgrims lost their fourth straight with a 50-38 home defeat at the hands of Tippecanoe Valley at The Rock Thursday.
The Pilgrims (1-4) shot just 31 percent from the field with a 13-for-42 conversion rate, including a 1-for-9 clip in the first quarter as they fell behind 8-2 at the first quarter break. Plymouth fared little better at the foul line, reaching the stripe 14 times but converting on just 12 of 26 free throws.

Carpenter leads Westview over Bremen
Skyler Carpenter scored 23 points, and Bremen fell in a 58-46 decision to Westview at home Thursday.
The Lady Lions were led by Jenna Pfeiffer’s 14 points, while Allison Shorter scored 11 in the loss, which drops Bremen to 1-5 on the season.
The Lions open Northern State Conference play with a game against Culver Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

OD’s Moore first to commit to Ancilla volleyball

HAMLET — Oregon-Davis senior Jessica Moore recently became the first member of the Class of 2012 to sign her National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Letter of Intent to play volleyball for Ancilla College.
“The team and the coaching staff were very welcoming,” said Moore. “I’ve also heard good things about the nursing program. It will be nice to be close to home.”
Moore, who has been playing the middle blocker position, began attending Oregon-Davis this fall after moving from Wilmington High School in Illinois.

LaPORTE — Mary Louise Swank, 81, of LaPorte, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011 in Goshen at the home of her son; David.
She was born June 21, 1930 in Waterford, daughter of the late Emanuel and Rose (McCormick) Gorden.
She married July 3, 1949 in Michigan City to Robert “Bob” Swank who preceded her in death April 11, 2010.

PLYMOUTH — Donald E. Longanecker, 84, of Plymouth, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011 at his home.
He was born April 10, 1927 in Sterling, Ill., the son of Howard Longanecker and Elsie (Dettman) Longanecker.
Donald had worked for LaPorte Transit, retiring in 1989. He was a member of American Legion Post 83, and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. Donald enjoyed coin collecting and model cars.
July 24, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., he married Madeleine (Legoff) Longanecker who survives.

MILFORD — Ruby L. Sawyer, 87, 493 E. Camp Mack Road, Milford, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 8:55 a.m. at her residence from natural causes.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence “Bud” Sawyer; daughters Connie (Steve) Schermerhorn, New Paris, Roxann (Tom) Monhaut, Goshen; son Kent (Ann) Sawyer, Milford; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

FRIDAY, DEC. 2
• The Triton High School senior class will be serving a spaghetti supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
The spaghetti will feature a homemade sauce made by Miss Stout’s foods classes. Breadsticks, lemonade, and a side salad will finish out the menu. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under (pre-school children will be free). All profits will go toward the senior class trip to Washington D.C. in April. Tickets are now on sale and may be purchased from any senior class member or at the door. Carryout will also be available.
