HARROGATE, Tenn. â€”Â Argos graduate Amberly Oâ€™Dell recently rewrote the Lincoln Memorial University womenâ€™s basketball record book as she became the programâ€™s all-time leader in 3-pointers.
Oâ€™Dell, a 1997 graduate of Argos High School and senior at LMU, hit four triples in the Railsplittersâ€™ 79-75 loss at Catawba on Dec. 3 to surpass her schoolâ€™s previous career record with a total of 203.
â€śIâ€™m very blessed to have broken this record with such a great team and under the Coach (Roger) Hodge era,â€ť said Oâ€™Dell. â€śIâ€™m so thankful for all the support my family and Coach Hodge have given me.â€ť
LAKEVILLE â€”Â The Union-North School Corporation made it official Wednesday night that Mitchell Mawhorter will begin his duties as the superintendent Jan. 2. Mawhorter comes from his current job as principal at Jimtown Junior High School.
Board President Mark Dickson had made the announcement Dec. 22 that Mawhorter had been chosen by the board to fill the top spot. The position has been filled by interim Julie Lauck since October of this year after being hired in September.
PLYMOUTH â€” Construction on the Community Resource Center in Plymouth is coming along nicely, according to board membersâ€™ reaction during a walk-through tour Tuesday.
â€śIâ€™m just ecstatic, I couldnâ€™t say anything negative at all,â€ť said board of directors vice president Ralph Winters after the tour.
PERU â€” The Lancers have had to endure a tough two-game stretch in which the second half has not been their friend.
Their weakness became their strength Thursday as LaVille outscored North Miami 23-9 in the third quarter and 47-23 in the second half on its way to a 79-54 Peru Tournament-opening win over the Warriors.
The Lancers move on to face Whitko in the tourney championship tonight at 8 p.m. after the Wildcats beat host Peru in the nightcap Thursday.
1st half dooms Argos at Winter Classic championship
Argos put up just three points in the first half en route to a 53-36 loss to Winamac in the championship game of the Winter Classic Thursday at West Central.
It was the Dragonsâ€™ second loss to the Warriors this season after Argos lost its season-opener at Winamac 39-38 Dec. 3.
Dominic Cataldo knocked down three 3s en route to a game-high 19 points for the Dragons, while Cain Thorn was limited to just five points one night after finishing with 20 in Argosâ€™ tourney opener versus West Central Tuesday.
