PLYMOUTH — It’s that time of year again, when those who struggle with holiday weight gain — or their weight at any time of the year — can take part the Best Loser challenge.
This time around, Best Loser 2012 will run from Jan. 16 to March 21. Registration deadline is Jan. 9, and teams will consist of just two players instead of the traditional four-person teams. Cost is $40 per team, and couples will still be competing for that $1,000 cash prize.
The first weigh-in is Monday, Jan. 16 when the team picture will be taken. Times to be weighed in are from 5 to 9 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.

Culver Community’s Trent Elliott put up 23 points to lead the Cavaliers in a double overtime Northern State Conference-opening win at Knox Saturday. Elliott has posted double figures in each of Culver’s five wins as the team is off to a 5-0 start.
Culver Girls Academy junior Andrijana Cvitkovic scored a combined 33 points as the Lady Eagles bounced back from their first loss of the year with two straight wins last week.
BOURBON — Triton’s Clay Yeo narrowly won the statistical battle, but Demetrius Jackson and Mishawaka Marian won the scoreboard war.
Led by Jackson’s 23 points, five rebounds, and five steals, the Class 3A No. 8 Knights held off Class A No. 5 Triton 58-52 at The Trojan Trench Saturday night in an enticing boys basketball matchup featuring a pair of Division I prospects.
PLYMOUTH — For the second straight game, manageable halftime deficits turned rapidly into insurmountable ones, and the Lady Pilgrims lost their Northern Lakes Conference opener 47-30 to the visiting Tigers at home Saturday.
Plymouth opened the second half on a 4-0 mini run to cut Warsaw’s lead to 19-17 at the 6:35 mark of the third, but the Tigers closed out the frame 14-5 to take a double-digit, 33-22 lead into the final stanza. Seven straight turnovers at the start of the fourth led to 11 unanswered Warsaw points, and the Pilgrims lost their sixth straight.
