Randy Davis is All-MAC preseason pick

MUNCIE — Plymouth High School alum Randy Davis and Jarrod Jones of Michigan City were named to the West Division preseason All-Mid American Conference team as the Ball State men’s basketball team was picked to finish second in the MAC West Division preseason poll Wednesday morning.

Plymouth’s Gilley, NorthWood’s Heeter tabbed for All-HCAC tennis honors

NORTH MANCHESTER — Plymouth High School graduate and former PHS No. 1 singles player Kara Gilley was named to the 2011 All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference team.
A 2010 PHS grad, Gilley played for the Manchester College Lady Spartans as a No. 1 doubles player and finished with a 7-2 record in the HCAC as a No. 2 singles player.
Also making the all-conference squad for Manchester are NorthWood alumna Alli Heeter and April Erxleben of Bellmont.

Weekend happenings

It's not too late to grab tickets to shows in the area this weekend—PHS is doing "The Little Mermaid," and Argos High School is demonstrating "A Blast from the Past" with hit songs from the 1950s to 1980s.
"The Little Mermaid" shows at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $3 for children 12 and younger, and $4 for all others.
"A Blast from the Past" shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and tickets are $5 for all.

Resident defends wind turbine photos to Culver council

A Culver area resident was on hand at the Oct. 25 meeting of Culver’s town council to defend photos he had made available throughout the community pertinent to the controversial proposed wind farm in Marshall and Fulton Counties, a project the council was once more asked to take a formal postion upon.

Hank Bilsland, noting he had addressed the council a few months prior in hopes it would vote for or against the project, in which some 60 windmills would be placed near Culver and Argos, among other locales. He said he received an email describing comments made at the previous

Traffic lights operating on new Oak Drive

PLYMOUTH —Traffic lights at the Walmart/Kmart intersection went into operation Wednesday.
The hope is that the lights will smooth out traffic flow in the especially hectic area. The lights have only traditional red, green, or yellow signals, no green turning arrows—although arrows could be added at a later date if necessary.
Oak Drive construction engineer Gary Fox, of Cripe Architects and Engineers in Indianapolis, said that the rest of the project is “almost complete.”

Ancilla’s Lewis headlines list of Chargers selected to All-Region team

DONALDSON — Ancilla College sophomore Horraine Lewis has been named first team all-region by the coaches of NJCAA Region 12, the college announced on Monday.
Lewis was joined by freshmen teammates JaCoby Smith and Manny Awuku, who both earned second team all-region honors. Lewis, Smith, and Awuku were all eligible for all-region honors by virtue of their selections to the MCCAA All-Conference team a week ago.

Warm Up Marshall County continues through Friday

PLYMOUTH — Warm Up Marshall County is a coat drive sponsored by Oliver Ford, the Pilot News, WTCA, and Price's Village Valet Cleaners. Now in the 13th year, the program provides donated outerwear to those in need in Marshall County. The coats collected are cleaned by Price's Village Valet Cleaners and will be distributed Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon and Nov. 13 from noon to 2 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Plymouth. Donations are still being accepted through Friday. All sizes and styles of children's and adults coats are needed, and can be dropped off at any of the sponsoring locations.
