Eagles fall at semistate
Culver Military Academy fell 4-1 to Penn at the CMA Boys Tennis Semistate at the Gable Tennis Complex Saturday.
Penn advances to the state finals for a quarterfinal Friday with the winner of a match-up between Fort Wayne Canterbury and Indianapolis North Central today.
In the other bracket at CMA, meanwhile, top-ranked Carmel beat Munster 5-0 to move on to host the state quarterfinals in a match-up with Marion.
The Eagles’ lone win came Saturday came at 2 singles, where Eric Maudhuit beat Michael Wang 6-1, 7-5.
Argos’ Zach Stockman scored two goals and made two saves during a penalty kick-shootout to lift the Dragons over Bremen at the Culver Community Boys Soccer Sectional championship Saturday.
Argos’ Jami Patterson scored five goals in three games for the Lady Dragons as they won the Class A Argos Girls Soccer Sectional last week.
PLYMOUTH — Plymouth knew where the ball was going. The Rockies just couldn’t stop him.
Dynamic Goshen slot back Chunie Pung racked up 333 all-purpose yards en route to four touchdowns, and the Redskins handed Plymouth a 30-6 loss at home at The Rockpile Friday.
ELKHART — Dealing with pressure was no big deal for Nate Leeper and the Bremen High football team Friday night.
The senior quarterback was one cool customer by passing for 156 yards and one touchdown and running for 28 more yards, leading No. 6 (Class 2A) Bremen to a 27-13 win over No. 10 (Class 3A) Jimtown in a Northern State Conference showdown at a jam-packed Knepp Field.
Senior running back Braxston Miller added 24 carries for 185 yards and two scores as the Lions (8-0, 6-0 NSC) earned themselves at least a share of their first NSC title since 1995.
CULVER — John Glenn’s football team savored its 28-13 Northern State Conference win at Culver Community for about a nanosecond Friday night.
With news of Bremen’s 27-13 win over Jimtown — the Jimmies’ first NSC loss of the season — the Falcons quickly looked ahead to next week’s regular-season finale with the Lions. A win at unbeaten Bremen would give the Falcons a share of the league crown.
Glenn faced a similar situation last year, but with standout running back Josh Anderson banged up, failed to capitalize.
