PLYMOUTH — Humans and their furry four-legged friends were invited to become part of the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) secon annual Bark For Life event Saturday at Centennial Park.
The site is the same as Relay for Life Marshall County by the tennis courts (Freyman Shelter). Bark For Life is a fundraising event for ACS that honors the caregiving qualities of canine companions. This event takes place to acknowledge dogs for their loyalty, friendship, unwavering love and support they provide to their human owners.
PLYMOUTH — Close, but no cigar.
The Lady Pilgrims reached the championship at their home Class 3A Plymouth Sectional with a four-game win over Culver Girls Academy but fell short of the crown with a loss in another four-gamer against South Bend St. Joseph’s Saturday.
ST. JOSEPH’S 3, PLYMOUTH 1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23)
St. Joe unseated five-time defending champion Mishawaka Marian in the morning, then held off a surging Plymouth squad for the title in four back-and-forth sets in the sectional finale at The Rock, 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23.
Plymouth’s Jordan Knapp recorded 7.5 tackles, three interceptions, 15 rushing yards, three PATs and a touchdown in Plymouth’s sectional win at Angola Friday.
Culver Community’s Aspen Kitchell recorded 15 kills and 16 assists to help lead her team to a Class A Sectional championship over South Central Saturday.
LAKEVILLE — The first time the two teams played, Femi Hollinger-Janzen wasn’t as much of an issue. At Saturday’s LaVille Boys Soccer Semistate, he took control.
The Indiana University recruit and Bethany Christian senior forward notched four goals within the first 22 minutes to give his team a 5-0 lead, then watched from the sidelines as Class A No. 3 Bethany coasted to an 8-0 semifinal win over Argos at Newton Park.
The Bruins ultimately lost the semistate championship to Fort Wayne Canterbury.
ARGOS — Same score, different game.
No. 5-ranked Mishawaka Marian beat No. 14 Argos 3-1 in the semifinal on the way to the championship at the Argos Girls Soccer Semistate Saturday before winning the tournament with a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 2-rated West Lafayette.
