New visual arts center enhances art experience for Academies students, Culver community

October 1, 2011

The arts -- and its offerings to students at Culver Academies as well as to the community at large -- are at the fore as the school prepares to unveil the Rosemary Berkel Crisp and Harry L.Crisp II (CMA ’53) Center for the Visual Arts on its campus, which will be dedicated Oct. 7.
The $4.1 million retrofit of Eppley Hall of Science provides the spaces necessary for Culver’s visual arts curriculum with new studios and dedicated classrooms for drawing, painting, sculpting, and printmaking, an expanded photography area, an auditorium/classroom, and two galleries.

October 1, 2011

BOURBON — Triton football head coach Rodney Younis described quarterback Zak Shively as a general.
The senior signal caller certainly turned in a four-star performance at homecoming Friday.
Shively hit 18-of-25 passing attempts for 261 yards and a trio of touchdown passes, rushed for another, and scored on a two-point conversion run to lead the Trojans to their first win of the campaign by a convincing 41-0 count over winless LaVille in Northern State Conference action.

Best of halves, worst of halves as Plymouth falls to Concord

October 1, 2011

PLYMOUTH — One good half of football wasn’t enough to get the Plymouth High football team over the hump Friday night.
Five second-half turnovers proved to be costly for the Rockies as Concord rallied for 45-14 victory over Plymouth in Northern Lakes Conference action at the Rockpile.
Trailing 14-3 near the midway of the second quarter, the Minutemen (5-2, 5-0 NLC) managed to cut the deficit to four points at the break on a three-yard run by Jarrett Settles.

Lions spoil Knox homecoming

October 1, 2011

KNOX — Class 2A No. 6 Bremen is a challenge for a healthy lineup.
When your starting quarterback has to sit the game out and one of your fullbacks is also out with an injury, the result can be ugly.
The Lions put on a clinic on both sides of the ball at Knox, scoring on all but their first and last possession before marching out the reserves and holding the Redskins to just three first downs in a 53-0 homecoming spoiler at Knox Friday.
