Lady Dragons top Hanover Central

ARGOS — The announcers kept the cheering home crowd posted on the boys game, fans called out text updates to one another, and the energy at Eugene Snyder Field was palpable.
The Argos girls soccer team followed up the Dragons’ Caston Regional championship with a victory over visiting Hanover Central, and the fire trucks were called back for another victory lap as little Argos claimed a soccer regional sweep Saturday with the girls title at its home regional Saturday.

Dragons rout West Lafayette, 6-1

FULTON — If you’ve followed Argos boys soccer this season, you’ve no doubt noticed the impressive variety of names on the score sheet.
The Dragons used that versatility to good affect once more Saturday, handing West Lafayette a 6-1 rout at the Caston Boys Soccer Regional championship.
Zach Stockman and Damon Binkley each scored twice, while Ronald Tanner and Sean Mullaney also each tallied goals as the Dragons rallied back from a 1-0 deficit for their first regional title since 2001.

Eagles win CMA Cross Country Regional

CULVER — Last year, the Eagles fell a heartbreaking four points shy of a regional championship on their home course. On Saturday, they wouldn’t be denied.
Led by Leopoldo Burguete’s winning time of 16:35, Culver Military Academy claimed the team championship with a score of 56, while Plymouth finished seventh with a score of 184, and Triton was 10th with a 254 team tally at the CMA Boys Cross Country Regional.

Plymouth’s Flynn-Scheetz going to state tennis finals
Plymouth’s Connor Flynn and Jordan Scheetz have advanced to the IHSAA Individual State Tennis Finals, winning the Doubles Championship at the Laporte Regional at Kesling Park Saturday.
Scheetz and Flynn battled back from a 4-1 deficit with five straight wins in the first set of the championship, ultimately handling DeKalb’s Landon Miller and Brandon Fruits 6-4, 2-6, 6-3. Scheetz and Flynn advanced to the final with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Wheeler’s Jordon Long and Lucas Jessen in the morning semifinal match.

CMA’s Leopoldo Burguete followed up his sectional-winning turn Tuesday by winning the Culver Military Academy Cross Country Regional Saturday to lead the Eagles to back-to-back team championships.

ARGOS — The cars filled the small parking lot of the Argos Municipal Building, overflowing onto the grass and gravel lots surrounding the area. It was 11 a.m. Saturday morning, and residents of Marshall and Fulton counties packed into a small room for an energy security forum presented by Operation Free—a coalition of veterans and national security organizations promoting clean energy.

BREMEN — The Bremen High football team reached down deep into their bag of tricks Friday night.
Too bad Nate Leeper didn’t get a chance to see how well one of them turned out.
Before getting buried by a host of John Glenn defenders, the senior quarterback managed to get the football into the hands of Ethan Pike, who then avoided his own fair share of players to go 66 yards for what proved to the game-winning touchdown, lifting Bremen to a 35-31 win over the Falcons in a wild and crazy Northern State Conference affair at Don Bunge Field.

Rockies fall 21-8 at NorthWood

NAPPANEE — Between the distractions of Senior Night and Plymouth’s new offense, it took about a half for NorthWood to get rolling.
Bowling Green State recruit Coy Brown ran the ball seven straight times for 49 yards and a score at the 7:56 mark of the third quarter to give the host Panthers a 14-8 lead, and a fourth-quarter interception and 26-yard return by defensive back Brayden Troxel set up a three-play, 13-yard scoring drive that ended the Rockies hopes of a victory in a 21-8 regular season closer at NorthWood Friday night.

Cavs ride big 3rd quarter
to conference win at LaVille
Culver scored 14 points in the third quarter to take a 28-12 advantage over host LaVille, and the Cavaliers held on for a 41-26 Northern State Conference win Friday.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Culver, while beleaguered LaVille finished the season winless.
