ARGOS —  Shirley May (Cunningham) Wolf, 79, of Argos, passed away peacefully, at her home in the country with her family by her side, Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011.
Shirley was born Jan. 30, 1932, to Otto and Evelyn (Hunt) Cunningham in South Bend. She spent most of her childhood in LaPorte. When she turned 17 her family moved to South Bend. She graduated from Riley High School in the class of 1952. Art and drawing were her passions throughout high school and her entire adult life.
Dona R. Dale

CULVER —  Dona R. Dale, 85, former longtime resident of Culver passed away Oct. 3, 2011 at 4:30 a.m. in The Catherine Kasper Life Center in Donaldson. Dona was born Oct. 9, 1925 in Farina, Ill., one of two children born to Donald (Hilda Kline) Koss.
During the 1940s Dona danced with The Acroballet Theater and won numerous “Jitterbug” contests. She sang with a trio in the local high school jazz band and sang in various radio productions in Chicago.

PLYMOUTH —  Paul Altman, 88, formerly of North Judson, died Oct. 4, 2011 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. (Phil) Aguilar of Honolulu, Hawaii; sons, Michael K. (Gale) Altman of Cinnaminson, N.J., David K. (Lynette) Altman of North Judson, Edward J. (Sumanthana) Altman of Indianapolis; wife, Jeanette (Pugh) Altman of Syracuse; stepdaughters, Shari (Dave) Ray of Fort Wayne, Kathi (Don) Robinson of Syracuse; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

DONALDSON — Dona R. Dale, 85, of Catherine Kasper Life Center, Donaldson, formerly of Culver, died Oct. 3, 2011 at 4:30 a.m.
She is survived by daughters, Cynthia Falica (Craig Hall) of Lynwood, Ill., Amy Seversen-Smallcombe (Brian Smallcombe) of Wauwatosa, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Rande Dale of California; and seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Thursday, Oct. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Odom Funeral Home, Culver.
Service will be Friday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Lawrence Edwin Beam

ARGOS — Lawrence Edwin Beam, 87, of 222 N. First St., Argos, died Sept. 30, 2011 at 2:55 p.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth following a brief illness.
He was born July 6, 1924 in Argos to Edwin and Mabel (Hagenbush) Beam. He lived all of his life in the Argos community. Jan. 23, 1944 in Argos he married Evelyn Pomeroy; she survives.
Ross Murphy
July 16, 1926-Oct. 1, 2011
PLYMOUTH — Ross G. Murphy, 85, Plymouth, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011.
Ross was born July 16, 1926, near Bremen, to John C. and Gladys M. (Gray) Murphy. He attended Linkville Elementary School and graduated from LaPaz High School in the class of 1944. Ross entered the United States Navy, in June of 1944, and served in the South Pacific. He was discharged in June of 1946 and discharged from the United Naval Reserves June 10, 1954.
FULTON — Both teams struggled with the field width and the weather at the outset, but Argos adjusted a little quicker.
The Dragons scored a pair of goals in the 18th and 25th minutes and made them stand up despite some late pressure by Oak Hill for a 2-1 semifinal victory at the Class A Caston Boys Soccer Regional Thursday.
Fresh from its first sectional championship in a decade at the Culver Community Sectional Saturday, Argos moves on to face the winner of the late semifinal contest between Peru and West Lafayette in the regional championship Saturday at 7 p.m.
Sectional times and dates have been determined by the host schools for the 40th Annual IHSAA State Volleyball Tournament.
The sectional stage of the tournament begins next Tuesday, Oct. 18 and continues through Saturday, Oct. 22.

Triton came on strong in the final set, but it was too little, too late against the visiting Lady Pilgrims as Plymouth handed the host Trojans a 25-5, 25-11, 25-23 defeat Thursday.
A Dulcimer Decade
On a bright crisp fall day in 2000, Marcy Prochaska was driving across Virginia to pick up a bright and lovely new thing: a hammered dulcimer of her own. In celebration of that anniversary, she will present a concert at 4 p.m., Sunday October 16, in the Legion Memorial Building on the campus of Culver Academies.
