CULVER — Culver Community’s Kevin Hogan rushed for two touchdowns and a team-leading 61 yards as the Cavaliers beat West Central in a Sectional 33 semifinal at Culver Friday.
PLYMOUTH — Plymouth freshman setter Haley Harrell was named to the All-Northern Lakes Conference volleyball team. Harrell set a perfect 361-for-361 for 110 assists in three sectional matches Oct. 20 and 22.

• Tippecanoe trick-or-treat will be from 5 to 7 p.m.
• Trunk or Treat in Nappanee will be from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at American Legion Post 154, 201 W. Lincoln St. Legion family members will park their cars and trucks in the Legion’s parking lot and fill their trunks with treats for the trick or treaters who are in costume. PLYMOUTH — Katlyn Hersick spent her summer in research labs at Notre Dame and Saint Mary's. The PHS senior has been interested in pharmacy since she was in second grade.
"It's my passion," she said. "I love being in the lab."
On a whim, Hersick decided to contact the head of the chemistry department at Notre Dame and asked if they accepted interns. To her surprise, she was asked to come in for an interview.
"I didn't really have much chemistry experience, but she said my passion for chemistry was there," said Hersick.

PLYMOUTH — It’s never easy to beat a team twice, especially on the road, but NorthWood sure made it look that way.
The Panthers put up 406 total yards of offense while holding Plymouth to a mere 151, and NorthWood backed up its Week 9 defeat of the Rockies with a 49-16 rout at The Rockpile Friday.
Plymouth closes out its season at 4-7, while NorthWood (8-3) moves on to host Concord in the Class 4A Sectional 11 championship next Friday.
BREMEN — Bremen’s football team set quite a tone Friday night.
The Class 2A No. 5 Lions scored in each of their first seven possessions and allowed visiting Manchester just 27 total yards of first-half offense on their way to a dominating 47-14 Sectional 26 semifinal win at Don Bunge Field.
The Lions, in search of their second straight sectional crown, welcome Lewis Cass, a 28-7 winner over Rochester Friday, in next week’s title bout.
CULVER — The Culver Cavaliers exacted revenge on West Central for an earlier season defeat in typical, grind-it-out fashion Friday night.
After West Central went up early with a 23-yard touchdown run at the 8:37 stop of the first quarter, the Cavs responded with two scores of their own from Kevin Hogan — a 3- and 2-yard run — to take a 14-8 lead and never looked back in a 24-14 win over the Trojans in a Sectional 33 semifinal at Culver.
MISHAWAKA — Teshon Sanders made quite a first impression on the John Glenn High football team Friday night.
Starting in the backfield for the first time this season, the 5-foot-10, 210-pound Sanders had 10 carries for 82 yards and two touchdowns, helping No. 2 Mishawaka Marian post a 22-14 win over Glenn in Class 3A Sectional 17 semifinal action at Otolski Field.

Mistakes bite Eagles
Culver Military Academy turned the ball over six times — four fumbles and a pair of interceptions — in a 35-15 Class 3A Football Sectional 17 loss to St. Joe at Oliver Field Friday.
Aramonti Phillips returned a kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown for the Eagles, and Edmund Hogan returned a fumble 15 yards for another score.
Ralph Laux led CMA in rushing with 58 yards.
St. Joe was led by David Arsenault with 162 yards and four touchdowns.

• Residential trick-or-treat in Bourbon will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
• Bourbon American Legion Post 424 will host a children's halloween party Saturday, Oct. 29 from 12 to 3 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for best costume. Lots of games will be played and prizes handed out. Food and fountain drinks will be provided. The event is open to the public, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
