CMA, LaVille wrestlers go head to head

LAKEVILLE — Both LaVille and Culver Military’s wrestling teams are young, but the Eagles are extremely talented.
CMA topped LaVille in 10 weight classes, including seven pinfall victories, for a dominant 52-22 win over the host Lancers in a dual wrestling meet Thursday at LaVille.
The visitors jumped off to an early lead with two pinfall wins and a major decision before the Lancers could get on the board.

BREMEN — Eugene “Gene” Carithers, 85, of Bremen, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at the Bremen Health Care Center.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Carithers; and sisters, Mary Jo Luke of Goshen and Ruth Smith of Ligonier.
Visitation will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 at Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen.
Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at the Bremen Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice.

Sister Jeanette Cyr, PHJC

DONALDSON — Sister Jeanette Cyr, PHJC, 96 years old, died of natural causes at 12:15 p.m. in the Catherine Kasper Life Center Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010.
Sister Jeanette was born, the daughter of Stephen and Milanese Patnaude Cyr, in Fowler, Ind. June 21, 1914. She entered the Poor Hand Maids Convent Dec. 7, 1930 and professed her vows June 25, 1933.
She was educated and trained in home nursing and social services. Her ministry in life was as a kindergarten teacher, an office manager and bookkeeper and home nursing with a ministry to the elderly.

PLYMOUTH — Robert A. “Bob” Richard, 74, died at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010 in the Life Care Center at Rochester, due to natural causes. It was fitting that he should receive his Heavenly Reward on the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception in honor of Christ’s mother Mary, as he always held great devotion to her.

The sledding hill at Centennial Park has been full of children and adults alike, taking advantage of the recent snowfall.

Changes within Plymouth Fire, EMS

PLYMOUTH — The Plymouth Fire and EMS Department has announced promotional changes within the department.
FF/Paramedic Deanna Cleveland has been named as the Assistant Chief - EMS for the Plymouth Fire Department.
She is a five-year veteran of the Plymouth Fire Department as a career and volunteered with the service prior to that.

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth girls basketball head coach Dave Cox has been stressing the inside game to his players.
On Wednesday, the Lady Pilgrims made it clear they got the message as Plymouth’s bigs paid big dividends in the paint in a 48-39 win over visiting South Bend Washington at The Rock.

Eagles slow down Zehner, hand Cavs 1st defeat

CULVER — Culver Girls Academy finally unearthed the key to containing Culver Community senior star Gwen Zehner — don’t even let her touch the basketball.
Using a swarming 1-3-1 zone, the Eagles limited Zehner to 12 points on just eight shot attempts, forced 26 turnovers, and held the previously-unbeaten Cavs to a 23 percent mark from the field in a 62-40 win at John R. Nelson Gymnasium Wednesday.
The Academy’s Andrijana Cvitkovic, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, and 6-3 senior reserve Casey Hall gave the Eagles the height and muscle to handle both the 6-1 Zehner and her teammate, 6-3 Patrice McBee.

Intersection light to be out most of the week

PLYMOUTH — Due to a semi-tractor trailer crash at Michigan and Jefferson streets Monday, Dec. 6, the stoplight support for westbound Jefferson Street was damaged and knocked down. 
On investigation by the Indiana Department of Transportation, it was found that the base of the pole was damaged as well. 
According to INDOT officials at the LaPorte District, the light may not be repaired until late this week.
