PLYMOUTH â Welcome to the Department of Redundancy Department⊠You know the drill!
It is that time of year when carnival rides and car shows; parades and pageantry; funnel cakes and fireworks; bands and balloons are the words of the weekend. And I didnât even mention blueberries!
This yearâs festival theme is âSchool Spiritâ honoring the excellent public and private schools throughout the county. You will see representatives from each corporation during the parade.

PLYMOUTH â The city of Plymouth has a new honoree among its department heads.
Plymouth Street Depart-ment Superintendent Jim Marquardt been named by the Indiana Street Commissioners as Street Superintendent of the Year at the annual convention.
The award was presented to Marquardt by Lebanon Street Superintendent Larry Lee and voted on by the superintendents throughout the state.
âI really donât know what I did to deserve this honor,â said Marquardt of the award. âIt really does mean something since it comes from other street superintendents.â
BOURBON â As conference schedules open up around the state this week, Culver heads to sectional and Northern State Conference foe Triton on Friday.
The two teams have a strong rivalry going after a couple of close battles last season. Culver (2-0) won both contests, including a 20-13 victory that unseated reigning Sectional 33 champ Triton (1-1) in round two of the tourney last October.
Plenty of returning Trojans are bound to have a bitter taste left in their mouths over that result, and Culver head coach Andy Thomas is expecting another close fight this weekend.
BOURBON â The Plymouth and Triton boys tennis teams couldnât overcome Mother Nature Wednesday.
Ninety minutes in, rain put an end to the teamsâ match. With both squads playing again Thursday, it was decided drying time would take too long, and the match was postponed to a later date.
âItâs hard to schedule a make-up once you get going in the season, but I know weâll definitely try to get this one going again,â Triton coach Al Peckham said.

CULVER â Changes and additional details have been released about two films slated for the Lake Maxinkuckee Film Festival, which takes place at the Uptown Cinema on Lake Shore Drive (Friday evening and Saturday all day) and the Town Park (Saturday evening) Sept. 3 and 4.
Due to damage to the film print, the childrenâs movie Saturday morning will be the 1995 film âBabe,â rather than âMilo and Otisâ as previously announced. âBabeâ is rated PG and runs 89 minutes, and is the story of a piglet who befriends and learns about all the other creatures on the farm.
PLYMOUTH â Due to the Labor Day holiday the trash pickup schedule for Plymouth residents will be altered by one day next week. Allied Waste is closed Monday, Sept. 6 so picking up trash and recycling will begin Wednesday Sept. 8.
Customers are asked to remember that trash and recycling are to be placed at the curb for pickup at 6 a.m. The trash lid must be closed. Any items overflowing the tote may fall off and will cause the tote to be left not emptied. Any items placed outside the regular tote will also not be picked up without a pickup appointment being made with the trash hauler.
PLYMOUTH â Two local organizations for kids will be getting a lot of âenergyâ from others this Blueberry Festival weekend.
The Adams Street Kids â a local youth ministry of several area churches â will once again make all their operating funds from the annual Blueberry Stomp. A good idea to help runners with their âenergyâ will help the Plymouth Sharks Swim Club make some funds for their season.
The Swim Club will host a spaghetti dinner for all runners in the Stomp to âcarb upâ on Sunday night before the traditional Monday run that ends at the parade.
PLYMOUTH â Francis Ellert, plant manager for Coca-Cola Bottling in Plymouth, recently presented a check to Julie Stauffer, executive director of Adams Street Ministries. The donation will assist the youth groups from several churches in hosting the 37th annual Blueberry Stomp.
The Stomp will take place Monday morning prior to the Labor Day Parade.
