Serves power Triton in win over Culver

BOURBON — It wasn’t the prettiest match of the season, but Triton will take the end result.
The Lady Trojans returned from a second-game loss to topple Culver 25-12, 18-25, 25-9, 25-21 in a Northern State Conference volleyball victory over Culver Community at Triton Thursday.
“We’re struggling with our competitiveness this season, but they overcame that and we still got the win,” Triton head coach Terrin Meister said.
Triton dominated the first set, but Culver (2-8, 0-1) fought back and benefited from numerous miss-hits and unforced errors.

Argos draws at Wawasee

SYRACUSE — Despite a 2-1 shooting margin, Argos had to come from behind to salvage a 1-1 tie with Wawasee on the road Thursday.
Mallory Rondeau beat three Dragons and hit a great shot across the goal to give the hosts a lead midway through the first half.

PLYMOUTH — Donald F. Peverelle II, 49, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 at his home. 
Mr. Peverelle was born March 15, 1961 in East Chicago, Ind. Oct. 30, 1989 in Plymouth, he was married to Donna (Harris) Zellers. 

Alejandro Pena

PLYMOUTH — Alejandro Pena, 84, of 1015 W. Jackson St., Plymouth, passed away at 5 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at his home. 
Alejandro was born April 7, 1926, in Mission, Texas, to Porfinio and Maria (Navarro) Pena. Alejandro had been a resident of Plymouth, since 1966, coming from Argos.
He retired from Agway Seed Company. He was a member of the American Legion of Plymouth and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, during WWII.

Doris L. Gambrel

ARGOS – Doris L. Gambrel, 80, an area resident since 1969, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at her residence.
The daughter of Charles and Dora Smith Merida, Doris was born in Lancaster, Ky. Dec. 2, 1929.
Dec. 28, 1946, Doris and John H. Gambrel were married in Pineville, Ky. He preceded her in death July 11, 1990.
She had worked at United Technologies in Plymouth, where she was Chief Union Steward of IBEW #1976, retiring in 1995. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John S. Irwin

PLYMOUTH — John S. Irwin, 59, of 10872 Hawthorn Rd., Plymouth, died at 1:45 p.m. Aug. 30, 2010 at his brother’s residence in Plymouth, following a short illness.
He was born May 14, 1951 in Plymouth, to Gerald W. and Lola J. (King) Irwin. He lived in Warsaw, from 1976 to 1987, then moving back to Marshall County living in Inwood.
He worked at R.R. Donnelley and Sons as a Roll Tender for nearly 40 years in Warsaw. He served in the United States Army from Feb. 26, 1971 to Jan. 3, 1973 obtaining the Rank of Specialist Four.

ROCHESTER — Lucas Ray Manns, 25, of Rochester, died from injuries in a vehicle accident Aug. 31, in Kosciusko County.

BOURBON — Triton Jr.-Sr. High School has once again been struck by the tragedy of losing a student to a deadly accident.
Thirteen-year-old eighth grade student Wyman Lynn Miller, of Etna Green, died as a result of a farming accident Saturday morning at his home.
