PLYMOUTH â Itâs been a while â two years to be exact.
Wawaseeâs Warriors put an end to a remarkable streak for Plymouthâs Rockies Friday night with a 27-17 win at Plymouth. The last team to beat Plymouth in a regular-season game was NorthWood in the final game of the 2007 season. The last time the Rockies lost at home was to Rochester, in the second game of that same season.
It appeared that maybe the Rockies would be on their way to a third straight thrilling come-from-behind win, with Brock Smith playing Superman, but it was not to be.
LAKEVILLE â During a meeting last night, the Union-North School Board approved the awarding of bids for the LaVille Elementary School project.
Bonds for the $4.2 million project will be offered for sale today.
Superintendent Terry Bar-ker made the recommendation to hold the project at the $4.2 million cost, but did indicate that there were other improvements that could have been made within the project.
PLYMOUTH â One local couple is making an investment in the future of the community.
Paul and Carol Nye, working with the Marshall County Community Foundation, have set up a special fund to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Marshall County. The Pendergast, Rosander, Nye Fund will help the club for years to come.
âThe whole reason for us doing this is the Boys & Girls Club,â said Carol. âWe feel the Club is so important to the community and thatâs why weâre here, to give back to the community.â
WALKERTON â They say school can be fun, but at John Glenn this weekend it is literally a carnival.
The school will be celebrating its second Fall-O-Ween Fest with rides, games, food and concerts all to raise money for scholarships and the non-profit organizations helping with the event. The fun kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday, and runs through 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, at John Glenn High School, Walkerton.
Last year $12,000 in scholarships went to 16 John Glenn graduating seniors.

WALKERTON â Betty Lou Schmeltz, 71, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 in her home.
Oct. 23, 1923-Sept. 21, 2010
BREMEN â Frances L. Hesch, 86, of Bremen passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 at the Community Hospital of Bremen. She was born Oct. 30, 1923 in Kosciusko County to Alfonzo and Stella Zentz. She was married to William P. Hesch, who preceded her in death in 1981.
Frances worked for Selmer Company in Elkhart and enjoyed playing euchre. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Woodland.
Survivors include son Rick (Gina) Hesch of Lakeville, daughter Pam (Dale Klapp) Berkey of Bremen, 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Feb. 2, 1939 â Sept. 19, 2010
GRANGER â William âBillâ N. Martin, 71, of Granger, passed away at 1:41 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
He was born Feb. 2, 1939 in Indianapolis, to William H. and Florence E. (Day) Martin. On June 7, 1970 in Vietnam, he married Kim (Hoang Thi Kim) Martin, who survives.
He is also survived by daughter, Audrey (John) Cavinder of Plymouth; four grandchildren, Justin, Jessica, Veronica and Stephanie; and brother, Ken Martin of Quincy, Ind.
BREMEN â After winning the round robin of the Northern State Conference race, Bremen entered the NSC Tournament as the favorites Thursday.
The Lions won at two of three singles courts at the conference opener, and their two doubles teams earned a bye with the No. 1 seed at their positions to keep Bremen the favorite heading into Saturdayâs tourney finals, but head coach Andrew Rohde isnât taking anything for granted.
CULVER â Culver Community High School Head Coach Andy Thomas has been named the Colts/NFL Coach of the Week, a program presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Thomas was selected after he led his Cavaliers to a 24-20 win over Bremen High School play Friday night. Culver is off to their 5-0 start in school history.
The 2010 season marks the eleventh year the Indianapolis Colts will be recognizing outstanding Indiana High School football coaches through the Colts/NFL Coach of the Week program, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

 WALKERTON â Helen Irene DeForest, 80, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Survivors include two brothers, Russell (Stella) Frazier of South Bend and Daniel (Phyllis) Frazier of Walkerton and 11 nieces and eleven nephews.
