Mike Bergman remembers 9-11

PLYMOUTH — It’s been nine years since the north tower of the World Trade Center was hit by the first of the hijacked airliners, American Flight 11, but Mike Bergman, 63, a graduate of Plymouth High School, class of 1965, thinks about it every single day.
“America will never be the same,” he said.
Mike Bergman will never be the same either. The threat of another high-profile terrorism attack is constantly on his mind.

Newton Farms hosts Guardsmen on a mission to help others

LAKEVILLE — Newton Farms spent Monday helping some National Guards-men make the world a little better place.
Starting at 8 a.m. 13 members of the 3-19th ADT – a National Guard Team scheduled for deployment in Afghanistan – became goat farmers for the day at Newton Farms. Their education, under the expert guidance of Jerry Gorka, Farm Manager for Newton Farms, was to let the Guardsmen gain some experience into the life of a goat farmer.

Weather helps progress on new Pioneer Drive

PLYMOUTH — It’s full steam ahead on the new Pioneer Drive that will connect S.R. 17 and U.S. 30 sometime next year.
“We’re progressing quite well right now,” said Ron Wireman, Construction Engineer on the project for the county. “We kept the rain away for awhile and we were able to make some great progress.”

ROCHESTER — Mary I. Moore, 97, of Rochester, died at 10:15 a.m., Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Moore of Rochester; son, Steve  Moore of Rochester; and three grandchildren. 
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10 at the good Family Funeral Home, Rochester.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1310 Main St., Rochester.
Burial will follow at Rochester IOOF Cemetery.

BREMEN — Ronald E. Leeper, Sr., 82, of Bremen, passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 at the Community Hospital of Bremen with his daughter by his side.
He was born Nov. 3, 1927 in Marshall County to Earnest and Freda (Scheetz) Leeper.  Dec. 21, 1945 he married Phyllis J. Long. She preceded him in death in 2007. 
Also preceding him in death are son, Ronald E. Leeper, Jr.; infant daughter, Brenda J. Leeper; two brothers, Jesse and Marvin Leeper; and sister, Ernestine Stuntz.

PLYMOUTH — Kristy Joe Hite, 32, of 20484 West 12th Road, Plymouth, passed away at 6:52 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, in Plymouth. 
Kristy was born Dec. 11, 1977, in Anadarko, Okla., to Billie and Linda (Lester) Noland. Kristy and Billy Hite were united in marriage April 22, 2000. They have five children. Kristy’s greatest joy, in life, was being a wife and a mother.

Pilgrims win on Senior Night

PLYMOUTH — Visiting Clay battled back in the third set, but Plymouth’s squad clamped down on Senior Night to finish off the Colonials in the minimum of games, 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 Tuesday.
After leading all the way through, the Pilgrims battled through a total of five ties during the final game at The Rock, putting away Clay with a decisive 11-5 run.
“Our serving got a little tougher and we got some service errors on them, and that made the difference that last game,” said Plymouth head coach Walt Pickerell.
