Show your support for the Pride of Plymouth

PLYMOUTH – For band members around Northern Indiana its Plymouth High School’s Pride of Plymouth Marching Band Harvest Festival time and some parents and boosters are hoping to give the program a financial boost.
Jeff and Lenore Jones of Anco Office Products in Plymouth are teaming up with the band to publish a program for the event and they are looking for businesses and individuals who support the program to show their backing by purchasing an ad for their business, or for their favorite band member.

Columbus Day a victim of the economy for city employees

PLYMOUTH — Plymouth’s Common Council has made it official: There is one less paid holiday on the calendar for city employees and Plymouth firefighters will have the equivalent of two less.
Mayor Mark Senter’s administration presented a paid holiday calendar with the normal 13 paid holidays that had always been presented over the years, and that schedule came into question by the Council. Consensus of the Council members was that the city needed to adopt a calendar more in keeping with the private sector, which in many cases, offers as few as eight days a year.

Margaret ‘Maggie’ McLaughlin

PLYMOUTH — Margaret J. "Maggie" McLaughlin, 70, of 7472 Savanna Lane, Plymouth, formerly of Crescent City, Calif., passed away at 2:23 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, 2010.
Maggie was born May 2, 1940, in Detroit, Mich., to Harold D. and Catherine I. (Matschikowski) McLaughlin. Maggie retired from Ba Bell as a Supervisor in Los Angeles, Calif. 
She graduated from Plymouth High School with the Class of 1958, and the University of Redlands, in California, in the Class of 1989. Maggie was a member of the Crescent City Kiwanis Club.

James ‘Jimmie’ Brinkman

PLYMOUTH — James E. "Jimmie" Brinkman, age 44, of 804 Miner Street, Plymouth, passed away at 10:45 p.m., Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at his home. 
Jimmie was born Feb. 5, 1966, in Plymouth, to Jim and Judy (Muffley) Brinkman. Jimmie enjoyed fishing, camping, NASCAR Racing and was a huge New York Yankee fan. He was very proud of his autographed picture of Derek Jeter, #2.
He graduated from Plymouth High School in the Class of 1986 and worked at Plymouth Pallet.

Leonard L. ‘Boney’ Stouder

ETNA GREEN — Leonard L. “Boney” Stouder, 87, of Etna Green, died at 3 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2010 in Miller‘s Merry Manor Nursing Home of Plymouth.
He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Stouder and Merril Stouder both of Etna Green; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sisters; Gloria (Bill) Stackhouse and Donnabelle Blackford; and brothers: Jim (Serita) Stouder, Dallas (Mary) Stouder, Richard (Janet) Stouder and Velorus Stouder.

ROCHESTER — Robert A. Basile 51, Rochester, Ind., died at 2:50 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.
He is survived by companion, Dawn Enyart, Rochester; sisters, Barbara Rosario and Mary Calhoun, Denver, Colo.; brothers, James J. Basile Jr., Olive Branch, Miss., Joseph Basile, Lafayette, David Basile, Rochester, and John Basile, Adam Basile, and Christopher Basile.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.
Funeral services will be private.

Annual show will help Shop with a Cop

PLYMOUTH – It’s the first sign of Christmas – this Saturday’s annual Shop with a Cop Car Show at Centennial Park in Plymouth.
The seventh annual event will have some of the hottest cars around and helps to raise money for the annual Plymouth FOP #195 Shop with a Cop program that takes area kids in need on a shopping trip at Christmas time.
“Normally we have about 125 to 150 cars to benefit Shop with a Cop,” said Bill Andrews the events organizer. “Breakfast and lunch will be served, we have top 50 awards and drive by judging, and of course lots of door prizes and giveaways.”

Public, downtown merchants hear about Main Street

PLYMOUTH — A committee — formed by Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter several months ago to pursue ideas that could revitalize the downtown area — met last night.
The seven committee members invited interested community members and downtown merchants to attend the meeting as well.
The committee has members from the Plymouth Redevelop-ment Commission, PIDCO and the Plymouth Park Board.
Guest speaker was Shae Kmici-kewycz of the Indiana Main Street Program.

Academies students part of opening ceremonies of World Equestrian Games

September 16, 2010

Members of the Black Horse Troop and Equestriennes practice for the opening ceremonies of the World Equestrian Games. The students will perform before 25,000 people at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky. Saturday evening, Sept. 25. This is the first time the World Equestrian Games have been held in the United States and segments will be broadcast nationally on NBC, starting Sunday, Sept. 26. This is the first time that members of the Troop and Equestriennes have performed as one unit. The Lancer Band will perform with the riders during an exhibition on Sunday, Sept. 26.
