Glenn shuts out LaVille in lopsided NSC win

September 11, 2010

WALKERTON — It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
For the second straight week, John Glenn’s defense put up a goose egg, and for the second straight week LaVille’s offense laid one.
Glenn held LaVille to a net total of -4 yards rushing and just 14 total offensive yards, while the Falcons scored on all but their last possession of the first half.

Bremen beats Triton in game of keep-away

September 11, 2010

BOURBON — There is an old coach’s adage in football that goes, “They can’t score if they don’t have the ball.”
Bremen’s Lions demonstrated that truism to perfection at Triton on Friday night on their way to a 40-6 win over the Trojans.
Time of possession not withstanding, the Lions ran 68 offensive plays to Triton’s 29. The Trojans had only one second quarter possession of just five plays. The game was a masterful performance of keep away, by a very solid Bremen offense.

Rockies nip Northridge

September 11, 2010

MIDDLEBURY — Northridge bottled up Plymouth running back Brock Smith all night.
Smith, though, found another way to leave his mark.
With the Rockies clinging to a tenuous one-point lead and 2:28 left in regulation, the senior standout blocked the potential game-tying extra point to preserve Class 4A No. 5 Plymouth’s 14-13 Northern Lakes Conference football win at Northridge Friday.
“(Smith) just made a play,” Plymouth head coach John Barron said. “The guys opened it up for him; he had a clean look and got a block. I can’t take any credit for it. That was the will of a senior not to lose.
