PLYMOUTH — When Sarah Hendrix, executive director of Marshall County Neighborhood Center, was approached by Boy Scout Corey Celmer about doing his Eagle Scout project, she was happy and relieved.
“The outside of the center had been somewhat neglected,” she said, “and the shrubs and plants had gone way beyond their usefulness.”
But, after the three-month project was competed, she was absolutely amazed, she said, at the extent to which Celmer and his crew had improved the exterior.
PLYMOUTH — Plymouth fire personnel responded to an alarm Sunday night at the Marshall County Historical Museum in downtown Plymouth.
According to Fire Chief Andy Metsker, a call came in from 911 and other sources at 7:22 p.m.
Metsker said it took nearly 30 minutes to determine that the problem was electrical issues with the elevators in the basement of the original building.

Plymouth’s Denver Bierman — and the Mile High Orchestra — will be coming to the Plymouth Wesleyan Church Thursday, Dec. 2 for its only Indiana appearance of the Christmas tour. Along with that, DMHO have just released a new album of Christmas music, available through Somerset Re-cords.

KNOX — Marjorie E. Oberlander, 86, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, in Golden Living Center, Knox.Â
She is survived by a daughter, Emma Louise (Bob) Tingley of Knox; son, Russell (Kay) Close of Williamsburg, Ky.; brothers, Wilford and Douglas Rensberger; sisters, Katie Alexander and Emma Ernest; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.Â
There will be no services or visitation.Â
Cremation will take place.Â
Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel assisted the family with arrangements.Â

PLYMOUTH — Robert C. Miller, 84, of Plymouth, died at 12 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
He was born May 22, 1926 in Columbia City, to William and Margaurite Miller and lived in Marshall County for 22 years.
Jan. 18, 1945 he married his high-school sweetheart, Barbara Lou (Meier) Miller, in Columbia City, and together they shared 64 years with each other. She preceded him in death Dec. 31, 2007. He was employed with Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne from 1945 to 1976 and retired from a management position.
CULVER — Culver Community’s Collin Stevens selected a perfect time to unveil his offensive capabilities.Â
With Culver senior standout Zoe Bauer’s open glances at a minimum, Stevens connected for 12 of his 15 points during the second half to help the Cavs to a 52-46 boys basketball win over visiting West Central at John R. Nelson Gymnasium Saturday.
“Collin Stevens was the difference in the ball game in the second half,” Culver head coach Kyle Elliott said. “Collin Stevens stepped up his offensive play, and he played a great game defensively. He played a great floor game at both ends.”
PLYMOUTH — With so many new faces, Plymouth showed its inexperience early.
Once the shots started falling for the Pilgrims, however, they didn’t stop.
Plymouth got off to a shaky start, falling behind 5-4 at the first quarter break, but its defense clamped down on Bremen in the second frame, and the home team started knocking down some shots from deep — including two by versatile big man Sean Smith and another pair from newcomer Ryan McNeil — for a 15-2 run and eventual 46-27 season-opening win over the Lions at The Rock Saturday.
