Habitat for Humanity busy with its 12th home

PLYMOUTH – While many were tailgating on a crisp fall afternoon some local residents were helping a family build a place to stay out of the cold.
“You always feel better after spending a day working on the house,” said Bruce Emerich, President of the Marshall County Habitat for Humanity who is working on his sixth home in his time with the group. “You meet a lot of good people and make a lot of good friends.”

Bourbon, Culver receive improvement grants

BOURBON — The Town of Bourbon’s wastewater department received confirmation of a grant for $800,000 for an infrastructure project that has long been awaited.
Wastewater Superintendent Mike Mc Farland said the town “was very pleased” about being awarded that grant which will replace the main lift station on south Ecker Street. “We don’t have a start date but I’d anticipate we would begin late January to early February,” he said.

WALKERTON — Charles "Butch" Pazera Jr., 65, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 in his home. 
He is survived by his daughters, Gina Ann Carey of Crown Point, and Shelly Marie Narragon of Champlin, Minn.; a son, Charles Robert Pazera of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; sisters, Marion Savage of Plymouth, and Kathy Pastor of Hobart. 
Visitation will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. (Eastern Time) Wednesday, Oct. 6 at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel.  
Funeral services will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.

PLYMOUTH — Gerald R. “Bob” Basehoar, 69, a Plymouth resident the past seven years, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.
Bob was born Nov. 15, 1940, in Hanover, Pa., the son of Millard L. and Laura S. (Sentz) Basehoar. Raised in Princeville, Ill., he graduated from Princeville High School there in 1958.
He was first married to Margaret “Peggy” Lottman Basehoar. On Nov. 14, 1987 in Peoria, Ill. he married Cassandra (Schmelter) Badanish.  She preceded him in death Oct. 23, 2009.

Surviving are his mother, Bernice Asher; companion, Debra Davis; daughters, Lori Rothbauer and Sue Miner; son, Steve Epson; brother and sisters, Jerry Epson, Karen McMahon, Joyce Williams.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Mon, Oct 4 in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care (Plymouth).
Hahn Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Community rallies for reward in cemetery vandalism

PLYMOUTH – Officials hope a reward will lead to an arrest in a case of vandalism at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter along with Chief of Police Jim Cox and Investigator Ted Brown held a press conference Friday announcing that community contributions toward the reward for information that leads to an arrest in the crime has reached $5000.
“As a former investigator I know about motives,” said Senter. “Quite frankly I don't get this.”

WARREN, Ohio — B. Lucille Woolley of Windsor House of Champion, Ohio, formerly of Eldon Drive, died at 9:27 p.m. at her residence, Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010.
She was born, Feb. 13, 1922, in Donaldson, Ind., to the late Theron E. and Clara M. Hovis Jones. She was married to Lewis E. Woolley of Plymouth, Ind. Nov. 14, 1955.

St. Michael parishioners celebrate 100th anniversary of cornerstone

PLYMOUTH — The 100th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, 611 N. Center St., Plymouth, was celebrated with a special Mass and a buffet dinner for parishioners and friends on Wednesday, Sept. 29th.
“We also are celebrating St. Michael’s Feast of the Archangels Day,” Father William Kummer, pastor of the church since August of 2002, said, “Every year, we try to do something special on our name day,” Father Kummer said.
“Last year we dedicated our school’s new playground.”
