ARGOS â T. Edward âTedâ Ummel, Argos, after a courageous battle with acute myeloid luekemia, diagnosed in June of this year, died unexpectedly in the I. U. Medical Center, Indianapolis at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010.
In his blog on CaringBridge.org, Ted wrote that he had been blessed to have had an uneventful medical history with no surgeries or hospital stays from birth until this past June.

NAPPANEE â Susie âCarolynâ Borkholder, 70, Nappanee, died at 3:50 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 at her residence.
Jefferson Elementary School held its annual pumpkin drop, where students use whatever supplies they can think of to support a pumpkin in hopes of it not breaking from about 80 feet from a Plymouth Fire Department truck.
The only surviving pumpkin for the day was dropped by the team of (from left) Austin Snyder, Kayla Heckaman, Michael Ruggles and Caden Grove.

LAKEVILLE â Four people are running for two spots on the Union-North United School Board. They are: Michael Berger and Patricia Blount for the North Township seat and Dennis Graf and Larry Ort for the Union Township (St. Joseph County) seat. Ort is the only incumbent.

Graf is up for election in the race for Union-North United School Corporation board. Graf is running for the Union Township seat from St. Joseph County. This is the first time that he has run for school board.
PLYMOUTH â Temperatures may be cooler, but the dry conditions remain around the area. Residents are advised that Marshall Countyâs burn ban also remains in place.
To date, the ban has not been lifted and will not be for some time if weather conditions do not improve. Marshall County Emergency Management Agency Director Clyde Avery advised the Pilot News that he had passed on recommendations to the Marshall County Commissioners from three area fire chiefs recommending that the ban remain in effect.
