PLYMOUTH â Cancer is a disease that often leaves a footprint of fear and despair.
Saturday, a group of people and their canine companions left their own footprint (or pawprint) in a step towards hope in the battle against this insidious disease.
Saturday was the inaugural Bark For Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Held by the tennis courts at Centennial Park, the event not only raised $560 for the ongoing battle against cancer, but allowed family and friends alike the opportunity to acknowledge the loyal companionship and healing influence of manâs best friend.
PLYMOUTH â Donât let the warm summer-like days fool you. Winter is coming and when it does, the weather forecasters predict a cold one.
Steve Keiser, chairman of the 12th annual Warm Up Marshall County Coat Drive, is a bit worried.
Actually, he is a lot worried.
âWith the economy like it is, there are people, especially children, who will face the winter without the benefit of a warm coat.â
Shivering children is what got Steve, the father of three, started on the project in the first place.
PLYMOUTH â The enrollment for the Plymouth Schools is up 34.72 students over last year.
The number reflects the way in which the state qualifies students as full-time, part-time, or half-time.
For instance, despite the fact that the kindergarten program in Plymouth is full-time, the state counts those enrolled as half-time in terms of reimbursement status.

PORTLAND, Ore. â Elizabeth âBettyâ M. Thayer, 89, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Bremen, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010 at Autumn Hills Nursing Home.
She is survived by a son, James (Debra) Thayer of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Linda (Henry) Chen of Towson, Md.; and six grandchildren.

PLYMOUTH â Melba Jane (Miller) Kreighbaum, 85, died at 12:50 a.m. of natural causes Oct. 16, 2010, at the Silver Oaks Health Campus, Columbus, Ind.
Melba Jane was born in Argos, Ind. Nov. 5, 1924, the daughter of Roy H. and Mojeska A. Anderson Miller. She graduated from Argos High School with the class of 1943.
March 26, 1944, in Plymouth, Melba Jane and J. Dale Kreighbaum were married. Dale preceded her in death Nov. 9, 2006.

MILFORD â Richard âDickâ L. Erow Sr., 85, of Milford died October 15, 2010 in his home. He was born Nov. 2, 1924 in Plymouth, to Clarence and Grace (Drach) Erow. Oct. 5, 1944 Dick married Bernice (Brockus); she survives.
CULVER â Paced by repeat individual champion Waverly Neer, the Culver Girls Academy cross country team edged out Eastern 52-53 to claim a championship on its home course at the CGA Regional Saturday, while Plymouth's girls scored a 127 for the final semistate berth.
Paced by Neer's 17:53, the Lady Eagles secured three top-10 spots en route to the repeat team title and a ticket out to the New Prairie Semistate next Saturday. Kaye Sitterly finished fifth, and Kacie Hermanson was seventh for CGA, while Eden Brackenbury finished 21st, and Kayla-Colleen Miracle was 22nd.
ARGOS â Led by tourney MVP Kylee Shipley, the Lady Eagles whitewashed Plymouth 3-0 to claim their third straight Argos Girls Soccer Sectional championship Saturday at Eugene Snyder Field.
"It's always good, but I think with this third one we've kind of established a standard now that's expected," said Culver Girls Academy head soccer coach Nathaniel King. "Now we can focus on a bigger challenge at regional. It's a big confidence boost going into regional."
